Charlie’s Games is a small Indie PC development company with its’s sole developer, Charlie Knight. Charlie’s Games is bent on delivering the most addicting fast paced amazing gaming experience thats available this side of a controller. Charlie’s next game is Scoregasm which looks incredible! The game is made up of 60 stages, and during any one game you could only be playing 20 of them! The replay value alone is amazing for a shooter like this, each level has three possible exits, along with some having a secret exit also. It almost beckons you to replay level after level to find the best route to score the highest possible score. Games amazing. Check out my interview with Charlie.

TheGamersHub(Anthony DeCicco):Tell me a little about your company and how you got started.
CharlieGames(Charlie Knight): Basically, it’s just me writing games. I got started as a hobby when i was working a pretty boring job, and went from there really.

I see you’ve developed quite a few games, is each game a learning experience? Yeah, I learn a little with every new game I release. Mostly I try to do my learning before i start a project though, I like things to go as smoothly as possible when I’m making a game, so I don’t like to have to start learning new things mid-way through a new project.

I know you’re the only member of your dev. Team. Any plans on expanding?
No plans along those lines, no. I’m happy how I am at the minute, motivated and fairly productive. I’m not against collaborating on stuff though, that’s something I’d like to do in the future.

Would you like to work with consoles and sort of, spread the wealth?
Yeah, I’d like to work on some of the consoles. I like the Wii most out of the current crop, and I reckon I could come up with something fun with the remote controller. I’m not really in a financial position to start developing on consoles though, maybe once Scoregasm comes out…

If I may ask, whats your idea with the Wiimote?
Nothing specific in mind, but I think maybe a shooter with some simple gesture controls would work pretty well.

There’s a lot to Scoregasm tell me a little about it
.
It’s an arcade shooter, obviously, but i’ve tried to pack as much cool stuff in as i can. For example, there’s multiple routes through the stages, and some basic puzzle elements to unlock other stuff. Each level has 3 exits too, so there’s a lot to explore before you’ve seen everything the game has to offer. Really though, I’m just trying to make it the best i can, and keep it interesting and varied in terms of content. I’ve got some cool horizontal and vertical scrolling levels in there, some fancy boss style arenas and a load of simple puzzle based levels too.

How long has it taken you to develop it by yourself?

About 9 months so far, but that includes time spent writing and releasing Bullet Candy Perfect (which uses bits of the Scoregasm engine) and Irukandji (which is based on the Space Phallus code). I’ve been pretty productive this last year.

Is there any word on a price?
Well, my last few games have been pay what you want, so i might go with that again, but I’ll more likely go for about $10. I think that’s about right for a game this size. Preorders are available at that price.

When should we expect the release date?
I was hoping to be finished by the end of January, but it’s going to take a little longer than that. Not too much longer i hope, I’ve got other things I want to do. I not going to release it until I’m totally happy with it though. Maybe early March.

Also is there any info you can give us on your next game?

nothing concrete, but i’ve been playing around making some 3D sea monsters in the same style as Irukandji, so maybe something will come of that? Possibly scrolling into the screen like Starfox? I’ve got Space Phallus to finish too.

There you have it. Another interview in the books. Check out Charlie’s Twitter for up to the minute info and his site to check out his other games, we will be having reviews up shorty, but for the price he is offering the games of endless fun for you’d have to be a zombie not to know a deal when you see it!
