Fair enough all games have been made with the ‘Fun’ aspect in mind, but the story of some games take away the ‘Just For Fun’ part of the game. So, I thought it was about time I listed the top 5 games to play just for the fun of it. There’s lots of games I could mention from the past but I’m going to keep this list up-to-date with the next gen games.
5: Mercenaries 2 : World In Flames™
Imagine a game with a huge, open world filled with dozens of vehicles and attacks that let you create destruction whenever and wherever you choose. Now, toss in game-crippling bugs, brain-dead AI, unsatisfying gunplay, a lousy story, and repetitive missions. That’s Mercenaries 2: World in Flames. It’s still fun mind, the story is so, so dull you don’t give a crap, therefore you just play around.
The map is quite big with plenty to explore and with many varying environments, within reason. You can do plenty of stunts jumping from helicopters and hitting the ground with death defining speed, its just great fun. The reason why this game is on my list is because from the start your not really that limited to things you can do, you do unlock more as you go around doing the story but the story really takes to back seat.
4: Just Cause ™
I should really have put this game higher but I feel it sits well here. Just Cause is a small game with a massive map, though some of the map is just trees to dense to explore. The game has loads of weapons, vehicles and stunts to do and use. The story will take you a mere 5 hours to complete if you just go from mission to mission and with the extraction feature which can take you from mission to mission there’s no need to travel around.
If you like games which are realistic it’s a game to miss; though I feel all game’s are unrealistic because heck, who wants to play a game which you can do in real life? Office work anyone? Again like the first game I talked about you get almost everything from the go, with the exemption of the grappling hook.
3. Prototype™
Unlike the other games this has a story, not really one I would go show off about, but a story! I don’t think there’s many people who were really interested in the story so much so they went out and bought the game, I just got it to impale some fools! You play as a guy with extendable limbs or something like that, but who cares, you can run up buildings!
You can control a limited amount of vehicles though you shouldn’t bother really, much better to go hands on proactive. The map is an alright size though it all looks a tad the same, but, you can run up buildings! Oh I forgot to mention you can eat people, and then turn into them! Oh and get expandable tentacles from suspicions places!
2. Call of Juarez Bound in Blood
Ah, a surprising entry! All the games above have been open world and then this just jumps on-to the list. Now I like Call of Juarez Bound in Blood, not because of the story, or the fact it’s a pretty game. No, it’s because its dam right fun!
The game is set back in the old Wild West days’ which seems to be an ever growing popular genre with 2 more west’n set games coming out this year! The game’s single player story is good enough to keep you interested but i liked the single player just for the fun. Going around shooting, changing weapons and shooting, riding and shooting, chucking a rope to get higher which will lead to more shooting.
If you like FPS’s its worth a buy, the online is pretty sweet too!
The winner is!
1: Burnout Paradise
Yeah that’s correct; the game which has so much DLC it costs more to get it all than get the game in the first place. Burnout is fun, the massive map has been built for fun, with ramps over buildings to the ultimate drifting corners this game is top notch for arcade racer fans. It’s worth turning DJ Annoying off in the setting’s menu and pumping your own tracks out for a more enjoyable experience.
The single player races can get repetitive after a while but that’s not a complaint, it just means you need to get some friends and go online. When using online the host can arrange races or you can all just ‘Piss’ about for a while. Its worth going to the airport and start the ‘Stunts’ event, always a laugh.
If i made a bigger list i would also include:
LittleBigPlanet
Call of Duty MW2 (Online only)
Grand Theift Auto 4 (Online Only!!)
So, what games do you play just for fun?
