Recently reported on IGN, the VP of Strategic Planning and Business Development Christian Svensson gave some info on the new look of everybodys favourite demon slayer – the legendary Dark Knight Dante.
That was a cool intro, huh?
Sevensson mentions “The original concepts that came back for Dante were actually extremely close to the Dante everyone knows and loves. The feedback that came back from [Keiji] Inafune and [Hideaki] Itsuno was, ‘No guys, this needs to be completely different, we need you to go much further and be much more creative.’”
“And literally dozens of potential iterations later became what we as a team felt comfortable and actually happy with.”
Svensson also said that Capcom were aware of the chance that fans would create some roars on the net and that maybe creating a roar was a part of the plan.
Man, everyone plays gamers like that nowadays, but atleast they know we’re a passionate bunch.
Svensson continued “I will argue that any changes will bring about a knee-jerk reaction from fans. We know that; we knew that going into it. To be fair, I think some of the strategy here was to create that discussion and dialogue, and I think it drastically raises the visibility of the title versus if we had just done another Dante.”
“This is meant to be an origin story, so this is Dante before you knew who Dante was.” “There is going to be some interesting changes and twists to what people think they know about Dante or where he came from. We aren’t planning on deviating greatly from the path that is there.”
“There may still be some tweaks here or there – I’m not privy to what’s going on – but by and large that will be the direction the team is going down.”
Svensson said he doesn’t expect the team to make any major changes to Dante in the new Devil May Cry.
IGN then went on to note that Infamous 2 developer Sucker Punch revealed a new design for Cole a few months ago, but due to the negative reaction it received, Cole’s look was put back to near default.
So there it is folks, atleast we know this is an origin story and the previous story arc lives on thru this prequel.
I’m still massively excited to see what happens, mostly thanks to Ninja Theory’s involvement to develop this title (partnered with Capcom USA). I’m still not into the new look, and but the fact the old story is not being overwritten (atleast for now) gives me some glimmer of hope.
What do you think?
Let us all know,
That… was… INCREDIBLE! ………..Justagamer
