SnakeByte Premium Remote XL+ Review

November 16th, 2010

The Wii Remote is a nifty piece of hardware and since the introduction of the Wii-Motion Plus many have thought why didn’t Nintendo just put it inside in the first place. Well a year or so has passed and now Nintendo has announced plans to release a first-party controller with built in Wii-Motion Plus features however the people over at Sunflex have already released this wonderful contraption back in April for Europe and is now making it’s way to North America. Can the first one’s out of the gate on this feature be the best or does it fall short?

Overview
The Snakebyte Premium Remote XL+ is the first controller to include Wii-Motion Plus built in and it feels right. It is lightweight and the buttons are made of that plastic/rubber like material instead of the hard plastic which most gamers feel is superior than the hard plastic. The weight is a great thing but it really requires you to wear the strap as the lighter it is, the faster it flies. The remote comes with two batteries that are rechargeable via a USB cord.

Good & Bad
The Premium Remote XL+ simply is the best Wii controller I have had the pleasure to game with. It comes with two batteries that you put in and the lid is a screw on lid, that way you will never have a problem of the cap going off or anything while gaming. The addition of the USB cord to charge really makes this a great controller and the on the face sync button assures that when you go to a friends house you wont have to unscrew the lid to sync. The built in Wii-Motion Plus makes it great value at the MSRP of $34.99.The controller will sense what games can use it and will take advantage of it. It saves the hassle of going out and buying the additional Wii-Motion Plus for $20.  Maybe it is the fact of getting a new controller that is fresh out of the box but the responsiveness feels slightly more accurate when compared to the regular Wii-Mote. It is hard to find something bad to say about this product because it does it so well, it is as if they listened to what the consumers wanted in their controller and implemented it.

Verdict

Its very hard to go wrong with the Snakebyte Premium Remote XL+ that comes in the primary white and black color choices. If you want to pick up a cheap and easy controller, who did it first before even the first party released theirs and has been a success across the pond in Europe than pick it up. Exterior sync button and rechargeable batteries is what really sets this apart from the competition and the lightweight feel of it in your hands is nothing short of amazing being that it has the Motion-Plus built in.
